HELPFUL RESOURCES
SAFETY
Gaming has a variety of potential negative content such as violence, foul language, pornographic material, drug/alcohol abuse, gambling, and more. This is the perfect reason for disciplemakers to enter into this space and help those who are already there to navigate it safely.
People ask me which game is the one game that you wouldn’t play with a student. My answer is that I will play whatever they are already playing; I want to embody John 1:14 and go where they are. For example, if they are playing Grand Theft Auto, I will go there with them and model what it is like to play that game as a positive Christian. The goal is not to promote gaming, but to bring them to Christ. Over time, the tastes of the player changes and they will move on to other games. Since Christians are not called to be of the world but in the world, we go to where the player is so that we can guide them to Christ. If you are repulsed by the idea of watching an anime or playing a game depicting violence, then be happy that there are people that will go there to reach others.
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

HEALTH
Gaming is a unique platform for exploring the interaction between physical and relational aspects of positive mental health. It requires physical fitness, emotion management, social connection while providing a sense of accomplishment, community, and opportunity for personal growth. By recognizing and nurturing these connections, gamers can develop resilience, maintain wellbeing, and build supportive relationships with others.
Esports and video games require physical fitness, emotional management, and social connection which makes them an ideal arena for exploring the relationship between the physical, mental, and relational aspects of positive mental health. While gaming can be stressful, it also provides a sense of accomplishment, allows players to explore new identities and perspectives, and fosters online social communities. By recognizing and nurturing these connections, gamers can develop resilience and maintain physical and mental wellbeing. These benefits build strong, supportive relationships within the gaming community. Esports teams also provide players with a deeper sense of belonging and community, providing opportunities to develop leadership and teamwork skills.
And he will turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the land with a decree of utter destruction.

ADDICTION
“Gaming addiction” or “video game addiction” refers to a behavioral addiction where an individual has an excessive and compulsive use of video games, to the point where it interferes with their daily life, work, school, or relationships. It is also known as “Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD)” and is characterized by symptoms such as withdrawal, loss of interest in other activities, mood swings, and social isolation.
“As a pastor, I see this in the youth, with a number of the young people so addicted that it has created all issues like isolation, inability to communicate, problems with focus, family conflict, and disruptive behavior.”
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
